Reedy Industries Dives Into Responsive Design
November 07, 2012
Founded in 1930, Reedy Industries operates a decentralized
business model consisting of 25 separate divisions. The majority of
these businesses are "field service" focused with expertise in
either commercial heating & cooling or commercial food service.
Both the Commercial Heating & Cooling (HVAC) and Commercial
Food Service markets are dominated by small, privately held
businesses. Commercial HVAC is the core business of Reedy
Industries, but they provide their clients with a number of
services, including instruction and training services for HVAC and
food service equipment.
While Reedy maintains a handful of partner businesses, they
wanted to update their parent site because a unique window exists
in the HVAC business for gaining an advantage in this industry on
the web. When Reedy Industries came to liQuidprint, we believed
that an improved web presence would have a strong impact on Reedy's
business model that extended into the future long-term. Reedy
wasn't interested in just a simple redesign. No, they wanted to
restructure their site so that it could provide visitors access to
their information at any level: desktop, device, or smartphone.
Thus, responsive design was the answer.
For those that don't know, responsive design is a web design
solution crafted to give users an optimal site viewing experience.
It provides simpler reading and navigation by reducing the amount
of resizing, panning, and scrolling needed, and it works across
multiple platforms: desktops, mobile phones, and tablets. It takes
a little more effort on our part when developing and designing with
RD, but the resulting product is very beneficial. Because Reedy's
site functions as both a public site and an employee intranet,
responsive design made accessing it easier all around.
liQuidprint worked hard to come up with designs for Reedy's
new homepage and inner pages by working with the client closely and
coming up with something that suited their needs and adhered to
their brand image. These pages were built to match up with Reedy's
new logo and theme. The new site has an overarching design that is
both eye-appealing and visually logical.
Aside from design and development, liQuidprint also worked,
as always, to make Reedy's new site SEO-friendly. Through the use
of Google Webmaster Tools, Google Sitemap, and Google Places, we
were able to employ basic SEO tactics. This will further help
Reedy's web presence as well as their success in the HVAC
marketplace as better SEO practices can lead to higher rankings,
which will lead to more visitors and potential leads.
Reedy Industries is liQuidprint's first real display of
responsive design, and we are satisfied with the outcome. It should
mean great things for Reedy and their company. To see
