    Using Personas To Your Advantage

    Posted by : Eric Wood

Sit back a minute and describe yourself.

So what did you say?  I'm guessing you mentioned your looks, personality, temperment, or perhaps your likes and dislikes?  Well that is a persona and you are a persona for another companies website.  You are the ideal user of their website and they have been striving to design and optimize their website so you'll see it and act accordingly.

Establishing a "persona" is an important part of determining what is happening on your website. A persona is a characterization of a type of visitor to your website. For example, one persona for your association may be Jane.

Jane is a new member of the Association. She joined within the last year about the time she completed her residency. Jane is highly technically proficient and uses the web, email, Facebook, extensively. She has an iPhone and iPad. Jane wants to engage with other doctors around the country and needs to complete over 40 hours this year of CE. She is also interested in attending the annual conference for the first time this year.

To utilize personas to your advantage begin by establishing primary personas and interview a test group of users that fit each persona.  By interviewing them you can start to understand exactly who they are and what they want to see.  Now start to analyze your existing website analytics to discover what each persona may be doing on the website.  The combination of interviews and analytics will establish our core persona groups.

At liQuidprint we use persona development as a tool during the discovery and design process of web development projects.  We will inturn deliver you a completed persona report.

If you would like more information about personas or other internet marketing initiatives please complete the internet marketing form and we'll be happy to give you plenty of examples and details.
