Seasonal SEO Can Prove To Be Beneficial for Businesses

Wondering how to bring more traffic to the company website? Try implementing seasonal SEO into the marketing strategy. Seasonal SEO is a technique to get more visibility to a website in search engine results during a specific season, like the winter holidays, where seasonal keywords are at their highest peak. For instance, when winter time is upon arrival, people will start to search, "holiday gifts", "holiday meals", or "holiday dresses".  If a company sells any of these holiday items, they can adjust their SEO strategy to appeal to these high search volume times.  Where they may have previously been optimizing for "dresses" year round, they can find much more success by optimizing for "holiday dresses" for the winter months.  Since SEO takes time to implement and is not an overnight turnaround, remember to start planning and putting seasonal SEO into effect about 3-4 months prior to its season's beginning. This can put your page at an advantage over your competition by ranking higher in the search engines driving more traffic and sales for the site.

How to put this plan into effect:

    1. Dig deep into keyword research using Google's Keyword Tool and Google Trends to find the key terms users search for in the seasonal months.
    2. Create unique pages of seasonal content and optimize them for the selected seasonal keywords of your choice.
    3. Be sure that the products/services the company offers are being used correctly for that season, don't promote Christmas ornaments during Spring season.
    4. Optimize the appropriate title, description and headline tags to each new page and the home page for optimal results.
    5. Check out your analytics to determine which keywords are driving the holiday traffic.  Then begin creating new pages about these terms with proper anchor text towards those new pages from your site and from 3rd party websites.
    6. Stay on top of what is happening on the website.  Are the keywords driving traffic and sales or just traffic.  Understand where the value is and continually optimize those keywords for higher rankings.
    7. Once the season is over, DO NOT delete or archive the seasonal page! If this is done, when the season comes again, you will have to start all over. Instead, adjust your core pages back to your year-round SEO campaign strategy and put the seasonal pages on the back-burner until the following year comes.
    8. Re-use the same content the following season, save the URL and/or redirect the old URL to a new URL relevant for the following year. This saves time and effort to once again boost traffic once the season rolls around again.  Rewrite some of your old content from the previous year to update the content and revive it with the search engines.

Using seasonal SEO will benefit a business year after year if it is done correctly. You'll have to weigh your options and determine which holiday terms to go after. Holiday's such as President's day may be a huge day to advertise for furniture in other mediums, but since SEO takes time to implement and see the effects, these short holiday events may not be the right way to go.  On the other hand, whether your business focuses on the spring (real estate and gardening), the summer (outdoor activities and supplies), the fall (back to school), or the winter (holiday season) there are keywords that can be taken advantage of.  These may not be the keywords all year round, but they are ripe for the picking during those 3-4 months when they're searched at higher volumes.  So plan out your yearly SEO strategy stop losing out on missed revenue.
