Landing Page Design Is The Key To Your Advertising Success

Need to catch the attention of users or want to test consumer responses to an advertisement? Designing a landing page can enhance the effectiveness of advertisements. The general goal of landing pages is to convert site users into sales leads, and by using a landing page to direct sales copy, marketers can use click-through and conversion rates to analyze the success of advertisement.

    Landing Page Anatomy

There are 10 key features that can draw users in with landing pages:

    1. Backup your advertising message on your landing page

    • Answer the advertising message on the landing page, don't distract them with other messages.
    • Give the user what they're expecting to see after they click on the advertisement.  Don't change the message on them.

    2. Catch them with the headline

    • Headlines shouldn't tell too much, but just enough information to make readers want to learn more.
    • Headlines should compliment and agree with the advertisement supporting it.
    • Since the headline is used to draw in readers, the secondary headline needs to be more specific about the topic.
    • The secondary headline should not bore the reader, it should too provide exciting information.

    3. Win them over with words

    • Grammar plays the ultimate role when trying to win over consumers, spelling and grammar errors can turn consumers away from the company and its products/services.
    • Words have a way of selling product/services, make sure wording of advertisements and information intrigues consumers to want to purchase from the company.

    4. Nothings better than testimonials

    • Building trust amongst consumers is the best way to build loyalty.
    • Incorporate Better Business Bureau grades, costumer testimonials, press mentions, and guarantee seals to bring security to consumers buying from the company.

    5. Inform users on what to do

    • Once the reader reads the headline, it is vital that they know what to do next.
    • Use action words like "Click Here," or "Buy Now," etc. to help consumers understand what is going on, call to action words have proven to increase consumer confidence and product purchases.  Test different variations of action words to increase effectiveness.

    6. Use buttons to call them to action

    • Strong, interesting words that consumers often search for like, "Free", "New", or "Buy", should be featured on the site in bright colors to get the consumers attention.
    • Background colors such as Orange or Yellow on buttons work best for call-to-action items.

    7. Be easy with the links

    • Adding too many links that connect consumers to other sites are a distraction and will take away from your conversion rates.
    • Being simple is the best thing for landing pages, using more links are more accepted on a regular homepage.

    8. Images and videos should relate to what's written

    • Videos of testimonials, speeches, news stories and images of products, events, etc. can increase conversion rates.
    • Adding videos and images to written work on the landing page gives a consumer a more in-depth look into what they are being informed about.

    9. Be short and simple, most importantly, above the fold

    • Too much information can turn a consumer away and important information can be over looked if cluttered.  Keep it simple.
    • Keep all important info above the fold, users shouldn't have to scroll down to see.

    10. Test, test, and keep testing

    • Run A/B testing on the landing page, designing two different pages to compete amongst one another can prove to be beneficial in the long run.
    • To see what resonates well with users, change copy, images, and call-to-action buttons and also optimize the landing page for conversions overtime.

Following these 10 steps can have the company's landing page full of consumers, increase product sales and overall conversion rates to both the landing page and entire website.
