    Drupal Add-ons

    Posted by : Gianna Neri

Drupal is a popular publishing platform that can be used as-is or with the addition of any number of free plug-ins and designs. It is equipped with content management features that make creating and managing a website much simpler. With more than 16,000 additional add-on modules, its capabilities for customization and functionality are vastly extended.

There are many popular add-on modules to meet the requirements of any website. Below we've listed just a few of the most beneficial modules:

    • Drupal E-commerce: Used mainly for selling goods and/or services, this module includes features for payment and transaction reports, shipping notifications, sales summaries, donations functionality, and much more.
    • Drupal Views: This module allows site designers to control how lists and tables of content, users, taxonomy terms, and other data are presented. Views acts like a smart query builder that can create the right query, execute it, and display the results. It also can be used to build reports, summaries, and show image and other content collections.
    • GMap (Google Maps): Integration with the Location module allows GMap to provide users with a clickable map as well as the chance to build interactive maps with different markers and content via map bubbles.
    • Google Analytics: Once this module has been plugged in and played, you can add Google Analytics tracking to your Drupal site. Statistics features like single/multi/cross domain tracking, site search support, AdSense support, and tracking of goals are just a few of the supported features of this module.
    • ImageCache: Image processing is made easier than ever thanks to ImageCache. You can scale, crop, desaturate, or whatever else you need to any image. You can also create presets of image types to simplify your processing needs.
    • Webform: Most sites use forms to engage or learn from visitors with. Many different types of forms are used from contact forms to feedback forms to subscription forms. The Webform module allows you to create any kind of form you need without any programming.

While there are endless options amongst Drupal's existing module collection, there is also the opportunity for more. If ever you find that a module does not exist for a particular need of yours, then you can create your own or add a patch to an existing module. Using Drupal API, or Application Programming Interface, you can write your own modules. You'll never be constrained to the limits of what currently exists in Drupal because Drupal API presents the potential for customization of every aspect of Drupal. Contributors are a large part of Drupal's community as they give Drupal a competitive edge over other publishing platforms. The best tools for your site are undoubtedly achievable through Drupal.

Using Drupal has its many benefits. As a CMS (content management system), sites built through Drupal are search engine-friendly and highly scalable. Drupal's infinite possibilities for add-ons, however, set it apart from most other management systems. What we've discussed in this post is only the tip of the iceberg of what's available. If you're looking to build a site in an easy yet customized manner, then Drupal is probably the way to go.
